The Spanish Steps are the longest and widest staircase in all Europe. A set of steps that link Piazza di Spagna or Spanish Square at the base and Piazza Trinità dei Monti on a hill, dominated by the French gothic church Trinità dei Monti. The long, triangular Spanish Square is named after the Spanish Embassy to the Holy See and at the foot of the steps is the Fontana della Barcaccia, a sober fountain designed by Gian Lorenzo Bernini.
