Aurelio District RomeAurelio is the name of the 13th borough (“quartiere” in Italian) of Rome. You will be close the famous Vatican City area, being directly 2 km southwest of the city centre and close to the famous Pope’s state.

Aurelio is a district situated. The location is very convenient for all those who want to visit Vatican City which is within walking distance. However city centre of Rome may be also easily reached by means of public transportation. Where to go once here? To the north Aurelio is close to the territory of Vatican City; to the east it borders with Trastevere. To the south you will find district Gianicolense, while to the west there is district Primavalle.

Aurelio is one of the first 15 quartiers born at the very beginning of the 19th century, officially constituted during the Fascist era (1921).

The “quartiere” is named after the ancient and important Roman Via Aurelia, the road that ran on the Tyrrhenian coast up to the beautiful town of Pisa.

In the Aurelio district a number of well-known churches can be found, like the Santa Maria delle Grazie alle Fornaci and the gorgeous Chiesa dei Santi Protomartiri Romani.

The church is located in via Angelo Di Pietro and it has been built by the architect Francesco Fornari. It is dedicated to the first martyrs of the Roman Church, which died during the persecution unleashed by the emperor Nero in Rome from July 64 A.C. until 67 A.C.District near the famous Via Aurelia that was the main artery connecting Rome with Spain.
Nowadays the Via Aurelia links the town with several well-known localities near the seaside and it’s not far from the major historical sights.
